FX4 graphics - 1600x1200

Hello all,

So I have a C3700 with an FX4.  A kind person on reddit has swapped me a mainboard of the correct/blessed rev. to also run HPUX 11i.  So I have been playing with 11.11 recently.

Initially, the PROM config for the MOnitor was a type 2 - of 1280x1024.  I also have an HP monitor that supports 1600x1200.

In HPUX (in sam) - I found Monitor settings and changed to 1600x1200.  Not only did this change my CDE/X desktop to this higher res. - but the PROM boot interface is also now in 1600x1200 (nice !).

Booting back into NetBSD -current (mid Jan 2026) - both my console and X now run in 1600x1200 !

My question is - does anyone know what HPUX sam did to enact this change ?  I know in PROM there is a “user defined” MOnitor setting - but I was always hesitant to try to figure that out the “hard way”.  I’d love to know what sam did to set this.  It very much seems like it did something in PROM settings as well because this now shows up as an additional screen setting.
