I don't think that it's possible to harm the hardware (but of course: no
warrenty!), but your memory (not the WinCE in ROM) will be completly lost.
I've NetBSD/hpcsh now running on my Jornada for several month and he's
still fine :).

Depends on which OS you are. But normally, those cards are allready DOS
formatted when you buy them. You have to disklabel and newfs them anyway
when you want to run NetBSD.

Nothing. When you shut down NetBSD, the Jornada will boot WinCE like the
first time after you bought it. So make a backup on a permanent place (CF
card) before booting NetBSD.

4. is cross-building compulsory to get NetBSD

Only when you want to make you own distribution. But there is also a
binary set avaible from the 1.6.1 release of NetBSD. Just go to your
nearest mirror of NetBSD. When you want to have it on a CD, look into the
iso subdirectory.

5. if it is, is there any

compiling the kernel and the world is done with a build.sh script included
in NetBSD. The only difference you have to make when cross-compiling is a
-m followed by the architecture you'd like to have. Look i.e. into

http://www.netbsd.org/Documentation/current/

Which ones?

There's a very informative mail from Valeriy on

http://mail-index.netbsd.org/port-hpcsh/2002/06/18/0000.html

with newer installation instructions. The port page is quite a bit
outdated. You only have to take care about one difference: the -d in the
build.sh script has been replaced by the word "distribution". But this
only affects you when you want to follow -current.

Hope this helps
