AFAIK, the problem is that it's not known how it is connected to the
SH7709.

Last I heard there's a work in progress to support ACPI.  Part of that
is the ability of the system to suspend itself (as opposed to APM BIOS
doing the suspend).  When the machine independent part of that is
done, it will be possible to write hpcsh specific glue to use it.
