This is the clue I needed - the Windows key (Alt, Ctrl, and Fn do other
unrelated actions) +2 or +3 work (not certain if 2 and 3 work exactly
the same - have not tried too much yet), but there is an odd behavior
with that action. As soon as I let go of either key, the screen turns
off until I touch it, or press a key (only really tried shift since that
usually has no effect on the command line). But after that, I see the
highlighted text in the new location - cool! The Windows key + 4 seems
to scroll back, but I'm not certain since I did not have a lot of
previous lines in the window I tried that in.

Quirky, but a big improvement. Does the window manager make any
difference? This works with both twm and fluxbox. I intend to try some
others out to see how they compare. Is there no general FAQ for using X
with a touchscreen?

Thanks, Jimi (and Tim, for your suggestions, although they had other
results ;-).
