yeah, i do that too (i don't remove the card though, just ifconfig it 
down). how does the interaction between userland and the kernel power 
management work by the way, if at all? the i386 way with user 
configurable scripts that are automatically called on all apm events is 
great. if there's nothing similar, i'd like to ask a potentially stupid 
question: is there any way to shut down a network card without root 
privileges?
