Thanks for the thought, but no, please.  Unlike wince it is normal for
a Unix to do things without screen/keyboard interaction, such as keep
my ssh session open or receive ``push'' email delivered via SMTP to a
cel internet account while the lid is closed in my backpack.

Assigning this meaning to the lid switch prevents this use, because I
can't put the machine in my backpack with the lid open.  In exchage,
it adds little or nothing of value.
