What I did was edit /etc/rc.conf and switched on dhcp and also added a line
like ifconfig_wi0="media DS11". Secondly, I created a file /etc/dhclient.conf
with a basic setup (see DHCP howto on netbsd site).

Upon reboot, you will see dhclient run and your card get configured
automatically. Now you can do "/etc/rc.d/dhclient restart" at anytime when
you change location to reconfigure the card - works well for me. A nice
feature, when faced with several access points, is that it will pick one
with the strongest signal.
