I have just finished installing NetBSD on a MobilePro 780 with a 256Mb CF
card. As you can imagine, space is at a premium here so no X, no man
pages, no text proc. tools, etc. This also means no Perl, so Ive had to
make do with tools that can use curses and don't need Perl. If you can do X
then you have more choices ;-)

My advice would be to go look through the packages and install binaries (Im
assuming you don't have the time or disk space to install pkgsrc).

What I did was install links (text curses-based browser) and then used that
to browse through the packages collection at
ftp://ftp.netbsd.org/pub/NetBSD/packages/pkgsrc/README.html

Each package page has binaries at the bottom - in most cases there are
hpcmips binaries available. I installed all the useful tools I could
find.
