Most CF cards are advertised as working for at least 100,000 writes.
Of course, there have been people who have gotten way more than 100k
writes.  Check the list archives for some testimonials.  This topic
comes up every once in awhile.

Yes, it would seem that the general consensus is that microdrives drain
more power.  FWIW, I have a z50 with a 16 hour battery, and use a 1gb
microdrive and an 802.11b card both of which are probably the most
power consuming devices you can have.  I get about 8 hours from the
16 hour battery.  This is more than adequate for me.
