Was it GENERIC?  My time was for GENERIC.

Yep!  :-)  But all's well that ends well.  The build completed without errors.  And, everything seems to work in what I think is the expected way on z50 for a plain vanilla generic build (i.e. PGUP, PGDN keys not working, power management doesn't turn off backlight, etc.).
