Hello list.

First, I want to thank the maintainers of NetBSD, the port and the
community for their work.

Prologue: more than two and a half years ago I bought a z50 while
staying in the US, after reading the /. story. With it came a 3com card
as recommended by the FAQ, and a 96MB CF. As the Cf was too small, and I
wasn't really knowing what I was doing, installing NetBSD on the Workpad
didn't go anywhere. After a while I went on to other projects (some even
more misguided, like trying to install NetBSD on a Qube 1 w/o serial),
and returned to the z50 from time to time. After some problems with the
backup batteries I thought the z50 to be dead. Throwed it into a box,
forgot about it.
Two weeks ago, I went back to that box, plugged the z50 in, and it
worked. So I decided to give it another try. I ordered a 340M
Microdrive, and a wireless card. Disclaimer: I am no *BSD crack, I come
from Lunix.

So:

Referencing http://www.tux.org/~bball/z50/ , I installed 1.5.3 and
Greg's kernel. 13 MB DOS, 30 MB swap, 294MB root.
Everything worked fine, including X.

Now I wanted to install some productive software, starting with ethereal
(think big). I put pkgsrc on a nfs share, and started making. After >18
hours the job was finished, ethereal and the depends were compiled.
Problem was, the libs/pkgs/whatever used up a whole lot more space than
I found comfortable. At this rate, my nice little clicking microdrive
would be full after the next medium package.

Now the questions:

1. Should I go to 1.6?
2. Should I refrain from using pkgsrc?
3. What can I delete safely/ w/o greater inconvenience?
4. What more can I put on an nfs share, for building/installing when home?

Thank you in advance,

Yours,

OS
