good question... but i'd look at:

ftp://ftp.netbsd.org/pub/NetBSD/packages/1.5/hpcmips

perhaps someone in the know can pull up the dependencies for libpng?

btw, answering my earlier addled recollection, the hpcmips packages are 
linked to the mipsel directory on the FTP site...
