carl - just got my package in w/the proxim card...
- upon insertion in the Z50 running NetBSD the card is recognized, but
alas, is not configured...
- and i'm having a devil of a time getting the card working under Linux
(will next try wg-wlan tools)... even though it's Prism2-based, two of the
prism2-based drivers i've tried have not worked... (perhaps a firmware
upgrade is required?)
- btw, the card is interesting: pcmcia w/a detachable antenna... IIRC, the
FCC requires proprietary connectors, and the detachable antenna has two
'mini-mini-mini' antenna connectors, along with two plastic male studs
that hold the 'antenna' in... however, the design must be dicey, as you
cannot simply pull the card out of a pcmcia slot, 'cause all you'll do is
pull the detachable antenna off! you must use the laptop's card eject
mechanism...
- i wish i could have reported SUCCESS with this card, as it is relatively
inexpensive...
- but i guess that all 802.11b wireless PCMCIA cards will soon become more
inexpensive as faster 802.11a devices become available and supported? (but
it doesn't make sense for PCMCIA use, right?)
