Does your z50 have a reverse-DNS entry?  It may be that inetd (which
handles telnet and ftp) and sshd are both expecting clients to have
valid reverse DNS entries.  I believe both have configurable paranoia
levels.  Web servers, on the other hand, typically don't do reverse
lookups, because that slows down client connections and gives the
appearance that your web server is broken.

Just a guess.
