So, comparing the permissions on the hpcarm and on my i386 box and
saying "They match, something else must be wrong" wasn't the right way

Of course, this morning I found a keymap that works.
For the archives: the keymap in
http://mail-index.netbsd.org/port-hpcarm/2002/08/19/0000.html seems to
work. I save the keymap to a file, and use "xmodmap filename" in my
.xinitrc.
Now, to see if I can get ratpoison and matchbox to run... :-)
