I've not quite got things working on my J720. Can work fine via a serial
cable but can't get wscons to work. Am using the autobuilt stuff off the
NetBSD mirrors. Also, I only have a 40MB flash card at the moment, so I
haven't quite got round to trying X. But when forced to use X elsewhere, I
usually use 'pwm'. Very small, clean window manager. I found it by accident
once amongst the FreeBSD packages and decided to try it. Have used it ever
since.

Has a multi-screen desktop, allows multiple processes per window (so you
can have all your xterms in one window and hotkey amongst them), nice
window zooming (vertical-only, horizontal-only, full-screen),
straightforward menuing and none of this 'beating Windows at its won game'
nonsense you get with a lot of other wms these days.

AFAIR the FreeBSD binary is under 200KB and the config files are pretty
easy.

(If anyone feels like giving me some wscons-on-J720 advice off-list I'd be
very grateful :-)
