Ask the friend if the cable's been stashed somewhere; they all come with
one.  :)  The USB "port" only exists on the cradle, and is only for use as a
USB device, but the serial widgets all plug into the oblong connector that
is on the back of the Jornada itself.  (The cradle also has a replicated
oblong serial connector; you get to it by sliding the door over the USB
connector).
