I think the trick is to power the 712 up - wait for the second LED blink on
the KB (KB reset) and then hit tab. The 712 will then cycle through all of its
monitor types, hit a CR when you see one you like...

Standard VGA (640x480) is one of the supported types, so pretty much any
monitor should work.
