What must be done to install the bootblocks on a 1.3.2 hp433 install?

After the install program has finished, my system cannot boot from the hard
disk.  I must use rbootd/SYS_UBOOT to boot.

If I try

disklabel -B sd0


I get:

disklabel: boot block size 0
disklabel: super block size 0

and there appears to be no other effect.

I see programs "inst.lif" and "uboot.lif" in /usr/mdec, but no information
on what to do with them.
