Sounds most definitely like you're experiencing a termination problem.
You really need to place resistor packs on the last drive in the
internal chain. This is drive-specific; see your disk's manual for
more information.

Yes, those are for the resistor packs. Quantum's WWW site or BBS
should be able to tell you what kind of resistor packs you need
for the drive. Sorry, I don't have that information at hand...
