I just recently upgraded from 1.0 to 1.1 using the "selective method"

Meaning I tarred the 1.1 binaries overtop the 1.0 binaries and selectively
replaced files that 1.0 specific.

My problem is that the 1.1 system will not recognize the tape drive. Its a
9144 and had no problem with 1.0.

I did a makedev all and that did not work. I tried changing scsi-id and that
did not work. What am I missing?
I don't have another machine to netboot off, so I had to do it this way.
