Try manually using "mount -t ffs" while in single-user mode.

Umm, there's a 1.1 kernel at:

	ftp://ftp.NetBSD.ORG/pub/NetBSD/NetBSD-1.1/install/netbsd.gz

That's a GENERIC kernel, with COMPAT_10
