Hi folks...
I just wanted to mention (and I'll probably mention it again a few
times), that you should update your boot code to the current version (or
wait 'til 1.1, whichever).
After 1.1 sometime, I plan on changing the console initialization stuff
to not require prior knowledge of all devices before autoconfig.
Instead, the kernel will be told by the boot block which select code (or -1
for internal grf) the console is at. This change has been in the boot
blocks for a couple of weeks already, so many of you have probably
already picked this up. You'll know if you have the correct versions of
the RCS id's are at least:
$NetBSD: pboot.c,v 1.10 1995/10/04 07:24:31 thorpej Exp $
- or -
$NetBSD: netboot.c,v 1.10 1995/10/04 07:24:32 thorpej Exp $
Newer boot blocks print these version strings at the prompt.
Yes, this is in preparation for new-style config. In fact, post-1.1 will
see changes to the interrupt system, HIL, console driver, and a few other
things (once I get the kinks worked out) in preparation for new-style config.
Anyhow, this is just a heads-up ... I don't plan on making any drastic
changes without giving all of you lots of prior notice, so don't panic :-)
I'll go ahead an apologize in advance for these "growing pains", but the
hp300 port needs to catch up with the others config-wise.
In you have any questions about this, please feel free to ask.
Ciao.
