Hey Andy, I asked this question a ways back.  Here's what I know about GC 
and NetBSD.

It should be possible.  There are a few kits out there that let you boot 
from a special memory card (it has a USB port).

I've also read that the PPC inside the GC (Gekko) is pretty standard in 
terms of being compatible with other PPC chips of that generation.  The 
person in that article said that most things compiled for PPC should 
compile on the gekko.  Of course drivers are another issue.

There's the GClinux way of doing things - use the PSO error exploit to 
boot.  I haven't tried this yet.
