Just FYI, 4.0_RC1 GENERIC kernel taken from
ftp://ftp.netbsd.org/pub/NetBSD/NetBSD-daily/netbsd-4-0-RC1/200709011431Z/cobalt/binary/
is not crashed by lsof packages binary taken from
ftp://ftp.netbsd.org/pub/pkgsrc/packages/NetBSD-3.0/mipsel/sysutils/lsof-4.76.3.0.tgz
on my RaQ2 with 3.1 userland binaries on tlp0 nfsroot.
(sorry my local wd disk has -current userland)
Could you please mention your environment more precisely?
(kernel config, updated date, userland/pkgsrc version etc.)
