Well I downloaded a perl pkg from the netbsd/3/packages ftp site as
the 5.8.8 perl tarball I downloaded wouldn't compile. However I got
the samba-latest, apache 2.2 and mysql 5.0.26 to compile just fine
(mysql gave me a couple of warnings).

I stuck all my tarballs in /temp (which I created) and then did
./configure, make, make install from there.

I just configured them all with --PREFIX=/usr/local/samba

etc, and the same for apache and mysql.

I'm a little peeved that I didn't ask about pkgsrc before I did all
this. Would I be right in assuming that if pkgsrc puts the new
installs in the same place I don't have too much to worry about?

As for Andreas' site being down, thats exactly why I didn't follow
his guide, I had it bookmarked but I couldn't find it!
