Hey folks --

I don't know if this will help you or not, but I ran the Cobalt restore CD 
and got an OS loaded on it and the box working properly.  When I was 
digging through my logs I saw the following about the ethernet card and 
thought it might be of value to somebody:

Nov 20 22:15:15 jupiter kernel: eth0: Old format EEPROM on 'Cobalt 27' 
board.  Using substitute media control info.
Nov 20 22:15:15 jupiter kernel: eth0:21041 Media information at 30, default 
media 0800 (Autosense).
Nov 20 22:15:15 jupiter kernel: eth0:  21041 media #0, 10baseT.
Nov 20 22:15:15 jupiter kernel:   PCI latency timer (CFLT) is unreasonably 
low at 0.  Setting to 64 clocks.
