Hi,
you have to burn the image via menu recorder -> burn image... (this is =
a
very straignt process without any "bootable options") not using a "cre=
ate
new bootable CD" option from file menu.

The ISO is good to go as long as your writer will/can use a CD image.
Example, my first time when I grab the 1.6.1 instead of the previous 1.=
6. I
was so happy to upgrade that I did it so quick and simply copy the file=
to
my CD and not tell my Roxio Easy CD Creator to burn it using a CD image=
.
So,
the first CD I got was only the files, but not bootable, but that was m=
y
mistake. So, I took one more slice of pizza, an other beer, put that cd=
in
the trash, install an other blank cd in my burner and this time select =
from
the menu the "Record CD from CD Image" and that was it.
Then reboot my laptop using the new CD and install NetBSD before I fini=
sh
my
pizza.
So, yes it is all that you need as long as your software can use CD Ima=
ge
files, not barely copying files to CD.
Hope this help you.
Daniel

Subject: RE: Is the restore CD bootable
Hi Daniel,
Thanks for the quick reply.
Here's the deal - did the download - uncompressed the .gz file using Wi=
nzip
which gave me an image.iso file - used Nero - told it that this was a
bootable CD and to use the image.iso file - the CD burns without error =
- if
I call it up, I see a fully exploded directory structure - take it to a=
ny
one of 3 separate i386 computers, but none of them recognize it as a
bootable CD.
I've tested the computers by using a Cobalt 3 restore CD from the facto=
ry -
that boots
I've tested again by using Nero to copy the CD to a CD-R (in case of me=
dia
problem) - that boots
But the CD from the ISO (or the earlier CD from the ISO I dowloaded fro=
m
the
only.mawhrin.net site) refuses to boot.
So right now I'm in this circular hell - I've been to the Nero site,
figuring I didn't understand how to use the program, I've gotten a tria=
l
edition of Alcohol 120, I've been reading everything I can get my hands=
on,
but no luck so far.
So if I understand you - this ISO SHOULD be bootable on its own - so I'=
ve
got to try again with different media (or something)

It is bootable, but you did uncompress the image.iso.gz to image.iso be=
fore
burning it right?
image.iso is the only file you need to use and burn that to CD and that=
's
it.
Then you boot from that on a i386 computer and you are home free.
Here for the step:

Subject: Is the restore CD bootable
Sorry for the newbie question:
Is the 1.61 restore CD bootable? I've downloaded it from:
ftp://ftp.netbsd.org/pub/NetBSD/arch/cobalt/restore-cd/1.6.1/image.iso.=
gz
Burned it with 2 different Windows burning programs on 2 different mach=
ines
(Nero Ultra 6 and Alcohol 120) as a bootable CD using the ISO image - t=
he
CD
burns and if I look at it, it shows the full directory structure - howe=
ver,
neither CD will boot (and I can get the Cobalt Linux restore CD to boot=
on
either machine).
Any pointers will be appreciated,
Rick Montgomery
