See drivers/char/lcd.[hc] in one of our mips kernel
source rpms on ftp.cobaltnet.com.  For example:
    ftp://ftp.cobaltnet.com/pub/experimental/SRPMS/kernel-2.0.34C53_SK-3.src.rpm

The LCD driver isn't pretty.  It was one of the first
chunks written here, and is simple enough that we haven't
had to clean it up.

We access the LCD through a set of programs we call
the panel utiities, but we don't publish source these.
An intrepid explorer should be able to do something
useful based on the driver source.
