Ok, I guess it may need some of the 2700 model workaround after all.

But first, could you try to turning off DMA for the disk like this?

-wd*             at pciide? channel ? drive ? flags 0x0000
+wd*             at pciide? channel ? drive ? flags 0x0ff0
