Hi all,

I was pointed at NetBSD in response to a query I posted in
comp.arch.embedded (among others) asking for opinions on embedded Linux.
I'm looking for a free OS to run on a (commercial) platform we're building
around a SA1110 (with PCMCIA, also a PCI bridge and a SXGA graphics
controller, and various other goodies).

The main reason I'm interested in an off-the-shelf OS is to ride a working
TCP/IP stack and ISO9660 filesystem, not to mention multithreading. The
licensing model (!) of NetBSD is also very attractive.

Where do I start looking at porting NetBSD; is there a porting guide? I am
not at all familiar with the OS's structure. I was hoping to start with the
iPAQ port and derive from that, but it seems to be a "coming attraction"
and I can't work out where to get the entire source tree downloaded.

I'd really like to talk to someone who has ported NetBSD to a new platform,
so that I can evaluate how long it will take me to port.

"... a man who is endowed with real qualities of leadership will be tempted
to refrain from taking part in political life; because [...] the situation
does not call for a man who has a capacity for constructive statesmanship
but rather for a man who is capable of bargaining for the favour of the
majority. Thus the situation will appeal to small minds and will attract
them accordingly."
