I'm fairly certain it works for Sharks and RiscPCs (though I've never
tried to upgrade my riscpc from the really old one that was only available
as a binary port -- sometimes stability is just too important). I've no
idea about CATS boards support, but my guess is that provided you have a
video card that isn't tied to an X86 processor (via some bootstrap code)
that there shouldn't be major problems.
There is a major problem, however, in building the X support libs. The
stock egcs-1.1.2 installed with netbsd mis-compiles one of the X libraries
somewhere, so you need to build X with gcc-2.95.2.
