The 1.4 kernel for the RiscPC pauses for ages between the following two
stages whilst probing:

May 16 10:23:53 cowdery /netbsd: NetBSD 1.4 (RISCPC) #0: Sun May 9 17:17:21 PDT 1999
May 16 10:23:53 cowdery /netbsd: root@oreo1.devlab.nc.com:/home/oreo1/snapshots/19990509/src/sys/arch/arm32/compile/RISCPC
May 16 10:23:53 cowdery /netbsd: real mem = 33554432
May 16 10:23:53 cowdery /netbsd: avail mem = 28028928
May 16 10:23:53 cowdery /netbsd: using 307 buffers containing 1781760 bytes of memory
May 16 10:23:53 cowdery /netbsd: mainbus0 (root)
May 16 10:23:53 cowdery /netbsd: cpu0 at mainbus0: SA-110 rev 2 DC enabled IC enabled WB enabled EABT
May 16 10:23:53 cowdery /netbsd: cpu0: SA-110 with bugged STM^ instruction
May 16 10:23:53 cowdery /netbsd: pioc0 at mainbus0 base 0xf6210000-0xf6212fff
May 16 10:23:53 cowdery /netbsd: pioc0: SMC FDC37C665GT peripheral controller rev 2

After which it pauses for a minute or so. Then it gives:

May 16 10:23:53 cowdery /netbsd: wdc0 at pioc0 offset 0x1f0-0x1f7 irq 9

followed by another long pause, and then away it goes.
1.3 didn't have this feature. It's not a problem, just a bit inconvenient.

Any explanations / fixes gratefully received.

Thanks,
