Does this mean use an old binary, or some old known working gas source to
build from? Does this apply to ld as well?

My recent make builds have used a symlinks to the gas & ld directories in
a 1.3F tree that was supplied with my CATS box. Should this work? (It's
seems to work with gcc.)

Thanks,

David.
