I've got the following junk in my .cshrc:

set path=(/sbin /usr/sbin /usr/local/sbin /bin /usr/bin /usr/local/bin
/usr/X11R6.3/bin /usr/java/bin /usr/local/teTeX/netbsd/bin
/usr/users/neil/ncinstall/client/netbsd/arm32/bin/ /usr/local/kde/bin)

setenv BLOCKSIZE 1k
setenv LD_LIBRARY_PATH /usr/users/neil/ncinstall/client/netbsd/arm32/lib
setenv KDEDIR /usr/local/kde

and the following in my /etc/ld.so.conf:

/usr/lib
/usr/local/lib
/usr/X11R6/lib
/usr/java/lib/arm32/green_threads
/usr/local/kde/lib

Put the following in your .xinitrc:

sleep 2
exec /usr/local/kde/bin/startkde

type startx and away you go.
