I got X to start up, but it only got as far as displaying a frameless
window. The pointer wouldn't move and the window didn't have input
focus, so the machine was effectively locked up and I had to reset,
slightly corrupting the drive :-(.

The quadmouse driver is installed, because I ran MAKEDEV. Do I need
newer versions of some of the devices for kernel SA 4958, and if so,
what do I need to reinstall?
