 Yep, It was me.

  I too found that the clock was set to 2000 upon halting the machine, 
but not before.

  I also found that RiscBSD had to be running for a while before halting 
it produced this effect.

  Now that you mention rdate, this would indeed seem to be the case.

I automatically run rdate every hour. 

  I will not remove this line from my cron tab.
