Thats a point. All the X stuff in the FAQ is (will be?) out of date for 1.2. I
had better do a new version.

The defaults have changed for 1.2. The distribution xdm should now work
configured as shipped.

Sorry. In March I said I would sort this out as soon as I got the etherH card
back from Nuts. The situation has not changed...

Btw, when it comes to compatibility between pre-1.2 X and X for 1.2 all bets
are off. The X distribution for 1.2 is based on the 6.1 release of the X Window
System, pre-1.2 is based on the 6.0 release.
