FWIW, with a KMEMSTATS kernel:

Memory Totals:  In Use    Free    Requests
                   44K    245K        2672
In use 66K, total allocated 832K; utilization 7.9%

So that's 1121 KB allocated for 110 KB of actual usage.  *sigh*
