I do hope this falls into this catagory.

I'd like to introduce myself as a long surviving Amiga user, I've been
with one since 1986 and now still use 3 on a daily basis.

I've been meaning to install NetBSD for quite a few years, even downloaded
the complete release of 1.6, it's still sitting on a partition on this
machine.

I've decided to install 2.1 and I can't see myself having any trouble doing it
but to the essence of the post...

I'd like a recommendation of how to divide and name the vols (in hdtools)
of a 40 gig harddrive... I've read the whole install document but I think
more clearity could be placed on the small things...

I'm quite comfortable redesigning the layout of the harddrive too so the
default 2048 sectors will become 512 :)

so I'm looking for something like...

1st partition: vol name root: size 3 gig
2nd partition: vol name swap: size 1 gig <-- remain in first 4 gig right?
3rd partition: vol name var: size 5 gig
4th partition: vol name usr: size 20 gig?
5th partition: vol name local:size rest of 40 gig?

something like this?

and does it matter what I set for buffers most partitions as they are now
have 1024k

do I need a swap drive at all? (all my machines run at least 128 megs memory)
and if I don't how can I fool the machine into this? Or do I create a small
swap anyway and the system probably won't use it? see above.

I intend to install it on my A4000T which has a 060/233mhz PPC... all files
will be placed on a 4 gig UW scsi and transferred to the 40 gig ide... it
has a cybervision64/3D, a sunrise audio card, a usb card, a zip drive...a
dvdrw... yes, I'm hoping to get around the 2 gig file size issue... grrr or
is there a port of dvdrecord that has enabled recollection of -split-files
from mkisofs ;)

I know there is something about a PPC version but after getting it all running
etc I'll probably transplant the 40 gig into one of my other towers, non PPC...

later once I become familiar I will look at the PPC if practical... i.e. depends
where the development of it is...

thanks for any consideration!

btw, there is no 2.1 package release of files? is 2.02 the latest? thanks

Regards
