You "just" need to patch the "serconsole" global variable to be 0,
which I believe can be done with gdb or a hex editor. (ser0 is in the
INSTALL kernel)

The kernel compile-time option just switches the default value of the
variable, as seen in amiga/dev/ser.c

#ifdef SERCONSOLE
int     serconsole = 0;
#else
int     serconsole = -1;
#endif
