"unix" plip and original amiga plip are the same, it should still be on AmiNet.
magPlip is a new standard only avaible for Amiga.

Even if you use some flavor of unix and plip on an ix86 machine, it may turn
out to not work when connecting to your Amiga, as the Amiga parallel port and
the IBM-PC clones parallel port has differences (in worst case you can damage
both computers).

As long as you connect Amigas to eachother, you can use Plip (use the same plip
flavor) or diskserial-ppp (upto 4 amigas connected to eachother). Else, use
serial connection if you don't have ethernet on the Amiga.
