Actually, it is worse: if you write sequentially, the next characters leftmost
column will always overwrite the bold characters rightmost column, sometimes 
with ones, sometimes with zero pixels.

If you write backwards, a bold character will overwrite the character to 
the right in the same way.

I tend to implement 2.
