Oh, it only leads to strange sorting in my mail program... for me.
But discharged batteries will eventually leak acid and destroy your
computer.

Actually, they sometimes start to leak when they still appear to be
functional... clock chips tend to work with less than half the nominal
3.6V.

So it might well be a problem for you.
