Chimera

Hello, I have dowloaded the source for Chimera and have run into a
problem. According to the directions I should type: xmkmf -a; make
and i get the error back:

"Makefile", line 570: Inconsistant operator for all
fatal errors encountered cannot continue

whats going wrong?
