Using NetBSD 1.3 with tcsh 6.07.02, I do need to write french
(é, è, û ...) quite often. LC_CTYPE is set to iso_8859_1.

I can use é, é, û ... at the console. But as soon as X11 with fvwm2
(or twm) is started, I get 'e, `e and u instead of é, è and û. It
seems to be X11 which disables somehow those representations, since
/bin/sh acts similarly.

Any ideas would be welcome!
