Your ideas might work on a Sparc within X - they dont on my PC
or Amiga.

 Even "stty cs8 parenb -istrip pass8" doesnt change this, as proposed
in tcsh man page.

 I do get an error though, when starting an xterm within tcsh set to
"LANG de": 
"Warning: locale not supported by C library, locale unchanged"

 Duh, this is a FAQ - but who cares :-)
