This is a matter of which shell you use. Most advanced shells (the most
commonly used ones being bash and tcsh) have command-line-editing
features that work nicely, provided your terminal type is set
correctly (environment variable TERM).

Neither of bash and tcsh is included with the NetBSD distribution, but
it should be easy to build and install them on your system.
