Startup grfx modes

Is there a way of changing the mode Netbsd starts up in?  I think it
starts in NTSC at the moment and my monitor can't support it.  I am
buying a new monitor soon though.

Also, I have installed Netbsd and when I start it, it comes up with a
login prompt.  What do I login as?

Sorry for these trivial questions but I am new to this operating
system and would be grateful for any help.
