I tried 1024x1008x2, and that worked, yestereve.

(Well, of course, my normal VGA-multisyncing monitor couldnt display
it correctly, but it was about the sort of signal I got from my
last iteconfig-to-more-than-ECS-can-do experiments, few years ago):
